Before The Fat Lady Sings

A poem about life

I recently broke my foot which has rendered me helpless in many ways. The big boot I’m wearing has forced me to sit in a chair the better part of the day. I’m of course reading and writing a lot, though it has made me a bit sad that I have ruined my summer because of this event. This short poem came to mind. A reflection of how I’m feeling today.

Lately it seems I’m outside of things
Looking inside where everything hides
As if in a play on a dark dreary day
There I stand in the wings on the side
The players recite their words without fright
Though I can’t ever think I could do
They speak loud and clear
The audience cheers
At a play that’s what audiences do
This image I see of a well sheltered me
Seems lost in a place in the wings
I must dig myself out
Stop this worrying pout
Before the fat lady sings.
