If we are to save humanity
We must include our four-legged friends
They unlike us are always aware of their space
Their thoughts, I believe, never go beyond their level of smell
Always with their head down
Always sniffing their way towards their next adventure
And we know how they recall another four-legged friend or person
By their smell
We on the other hand have gone from being four-legged
To standing straight up
And missing all the wonders that are on the ground
Just one step ahead of us
Who then knows more of their surroundings I ask
For sure it’s our four-legged nose to the ground friends
Yes, dogs and cats who we have domesticated
Are in many cases our closest friends
We walk them
We feed them
We take them to various clinicians for care
They are in many cases our children
So, as I started to say
If we are to save humanity
We must include our four-legged friends
So we can determine what lies ahead
From the ground up.
