In This New Year

A poem of promise in the coming year

Photo by Clemens van Lay on Unsplash

Within these walls that hold me in
The wind bears judgment to all my whims
The ceiling lit as bright it can
I am this day without a plan
Another year has passed on by
And I alone feel the greatest sigh
No challenge won
No last goodbye
No reason to inscribe the little lies
I ask myself
No other man
Will this year bear a fruitful plan
A new thing bought
A secret sought
Or will it go on and on for naught
Let me this first day here
Promise to all that I hold dear
That I may grow beyond my peers
To meet the challenge in this New Year.
