A Birthday Poem

Photo by Evelin Tomić on Unsplash

Time has a way of
Putting on pounds
Creating lines and long frowns
Pushing you closer to the ground
Time seems to know when
To call it a night
Stop you from a fight
Lead you to the light
Time lets you know
To say yes not say no
Be a good sort of Joe
Stop the tug start the tow
Time when it ticks
Can play silly old tricks
Has you picking up sticks
Records you in old flicks
So why not give in just this once
Stop playing bad jokes on the one
That shows you the way
Walks with you every day
Who wants you to give up your old ways
Your birthday my friend
Has shown its yearly trend
With candles and cake just for you
It is the time you must bend
You know time only lends
Its good years for just so long
Why not stand straight with a cause
Make one wish and pause
Then ask time for the time to heal
If you are lucky enough
Have the right kind of stuff
The world will know this time it’s for real.
