Remembering Parents

A poem on their birthday

Remembering a time that seems so long ago
When life was simple and we were young
Our parents did what they knew best
Too often, bringing us to test
Their ways were tough with constant chores
For sure, we were never bored
They always knew what was best for us
So why at times beneath our breath we cussed
Today, our Mom would be one hundred fourteen
And Dad one hundred fifteen
How can this be we are so young at heart
How can it be that we would wish that we again could start
Yet all that we have seen and heard throughout our years
Sometimes we teared more times we cheered
Were taught to us by just those two
Who are today just a memory we keep, they are so few
As we light a candle soon to say we knew
Down keep inside they loved us true
We never went without a meal or place to sleep
We didn’t know we never made a peep
What else can parents do back then
Those days when connecting was with paper and with pen
The times have changed, that is for sure
And we have gathered wealth and much much more
Without their genes, where would we be
Without their vision, what would we see
For life begins and ends with those we love
And what is love without our family?
