The Torture of Time

As the years scratch away
At your skin and bones
And your daily pain adds to your groans
You bend
You lift
You want your gift of youth back again
Those promises now gone since then
Those places and races are all left behind
Your mind becomes blind
To your memory’s past
Why didn’t your youthful body last
Your life seemed staged you starred in the cast
You keep trying while crying
Give me one more chance to stop dying
You know there is nothing you can do
The torture of time
Relentlessly so
How were you to ever know?
