The case of the missing Elf
In our last episode, the three Elves were enlarging their vegetable garden so they could help feed the family of rabbits they have become so friendly with. This family of rabbits was multiplying so fast they could not keep up with enough food like carrots and lettuce to feed themselves. Because rabbits are small animals they can have multiple litters every year.
All animals, according to their size have different gestation periods. Little animals like mice can have a litter every three months. Larger animals proportionately take longer periods, such as humans which take nine months till they are born. Elephants, which are so large take up to 22 months average, and so forth depending on size. These animals are mammals, most mammals, not all, are like humans, that at birth are miniatures of their parents.
Other animals are egg-laying animals they are called oviparous. They include birds, chickens, snakes, and many members of the reptile family. Once they lay their eggs, they have to be incubated for a while before they hatch. But let us not get too far away from our story.
